Card-issuer credit lines are fast and convenient, and they are underwritten off a narrow view of your business. If you were declined, or the limit came back too small to matter, a dedicated business line of credit is usually the next step up.
Card-issuer and fintech credit lines are fast, convenient, and sized off a relatively narrow view of your business — often your history with that issuer plus a light underwriting pass. Two things happen as a result: healthy businesses get declined for reasons that have little to do with their fundamentals, and businesses that get approved often get a limit far below what they actually need.
A dedicated business line of credit is the step up. In our network they run $10,000 to $5 million with a 600 FICO floor, 6+ months in business, $10,000 a month in gross sales, and same-day access once the line is open — with interest only on the drawn balance.
Short-duration revolving products are frequently quoted as a flat monthly fee on the drawn amount. That is not an interest rate, and it annualizes much higher than it reads. Before you compare anything to anything, convert both to dollars:
Our calculator will do the arithmetic on both structures.
When the need is a single sized project rather than a repeating gap, a term loan is cheaper per dollar and easier to budget. When the gap is caused by customers paying slowly, factoring fixes the actual cause instead of financing the symptom.
Re-applying to another lender with the same file usually produces the same answer. Changing the type of product changes what is being underwritten, and that is what flips a no into a yes.
| If the blocker is… | Try this | Because |
|---|---|---|
| Credit score | Equipment financing (580+), invoice factoring (no minimum FICO) | The asset or your customer's credit secures it, not your score |
| Time in business | Equipment financing, startup funding, PO financing | All three have no minimum time in business |
| Revenue too low | Startup funding, equipment financing | Neither carries a monthly revenue minimum |
| Slow-paying customers | Invoice factoring, asset-based lending | You borrow against work already delivered |
| Need it this week | Line of credit, bridge loan | Same-day funding, and bridges carry no prepayment penalty |
