Business Loans for Women-Owned Businesses

There is no separate, cheaper 'women's business loan' product in commercial lending — anyone telling you otherwise is selling something. What does exist is a set of programs, certifications and lenders where women-owned businesses are actively sought, plus grant sources worth your time.

The honest starting point

There is no separate, cheaper commercial loan product reserved for women-owned businesses. Rates and terms come from underwriting, not demographics. What does exist — and is genuinely worth pursuing — is a set of certifications, programs and funding sources where women-owned businesses are actively sought out.

What is real and worth your time

WOSB / EDWOSB certification

The SBA's Women-Owned Small Business federal contracting program sets aside certain federal contracts for certified WOSBs and economically disadvantaged WOSBs. Certification is free through the SBA's own process. Its value is contract access, not cheaper credit — and contracts produce receivables, which are financeable with A/R financing at no minimum credit score.

SBA lending

The most cost-effective money most small businesses will ever access: $50,000 to $5 million, 10 to 25 year terms, 675+ FICO, 2+ years in business, 30–45 days to fund. Women's Business Centers across the country provide free help preparing the file, which is the part most applications fail on. How SBA works.

Grants and corporate programs

Real grant programs for women-owned businesses exist through foundations and corporate initiatives, and they are competitive with real deadlines. Two rules: a legitimate grant never charges an application fee, and grant timelines are measured in months. Never let a grant application be the plan for a bill due in three weeks.

CDFIs and microlenders

Community Development Financial Institutions and nonprofit microlenders often lend where banks will not, at reasonable rates, with mentoring attached. Worth checking before any high-cost product.

The commercial layer, for what programs will not cover

Grants and set-asides do not pay for the truck arriving Thursday. For that: equipment financing (580 FICO, no time in business minimum), a line of credit (600 FICO, 6+ months, same-day draws), or a term loan (660 FICO, 4+ months). Costs you nothing to see what you qualify for.

Program guidelines shown are our lending partners' published minimums as of September 2026 and can change. They are qualification floors, not an offer. General information about commercial finance products, not financial or legal advice.
